Is discrimination still real?
Short answer
Some of it, measurably. In a field experiment, Marianne Bertrand and Sendhil Mullainathan sent fictitious resumes to employers in Boston and Chicago. “White names receive 50 percent more callbacks for interviews.” A fair conservative argument begins by granting what the evidence shows.
